Well, this was a fun little creative challenge!
I was invited to be a guest competitor on the Great North American Stampin’ Show, and I couldn’t resist saying yes!
The theme for this episode was “Give Me Something Blue,” and you know me… when someone gives me a creative challenge, my mind immediately starts thinking about scrapbook pages. 😉
But this time, I decided to start with a card and then take that same inspiration into a scrapbook layout!
One Collection, Two Creative Projects!
For this challenge, I pulled out the beautiful Mosaic Gardens Designer Series Paper, added a little Country Woods DSP, and brought in the Funky Chunky Florals Bundle.
And can we talk about those blues for a moment?
Between Hydrangea Hue and Pretty Peacock, there are so many gorgeous possibilities! I added touches of Crisp Cantaloupe, Crushed Curry, and Old Olive to bring everything together.
The result? Two coordinating projects that share the same products but have their own personalities.
First Up… Let’s Make a Card!
I started with a simple card design using three strips of Mosaic Gardens Designer Series Paper.
I love this kind of design because it lets you showcase several coordinating patterns without needing a complicated layout.
I added a sentiment from the Friends Like You Stamp Set, some beautiful flowers created with the Funky Chunky Florals Bundle, a little Linen Thread, and a few Glossy Garden Dots.
And just like that, we had a card!

But here’s where my scrapbook-loving brain kicked in…
What if I took that same idea and made it BIGGER?
From a Card to a Scrapbook Layout!
This is one of my favourite things about paper crafting. A great design doesn’t have to be limited to one type of project!
I took the idea of showcasing different patterned papers and expanded it into a 12″ × 12″ scrapbook layout.
Instead of three strips, I created a grid using nine 3″ × 3″ squares of patterned paper.
I layered everything over Pretty Peacock cardstock and the beautiful woodgrain pattern from Country Woods DSP.
Then I added space for two photos, one 4″ × 6″ and one 4″ × 4″, along with some coordinating floral clusters.
Same products. Same inspiration. Two completely different projects!
And that’s what I love about creating with sketches. Once you understand the basic design, you can adapt it in so many ways.
