I get asked lots of questions about scrapbooking. I thought I might try and share a few quick tips for anyone that is interesting in starting to scrapbook and even a seasoned scrapbooker.

  1. Start with a theme or goal for your scrapbook. This will help you stay focused and organized. I find if you have a single theme is a perfect place to start. There is a beginning, middle and end to the project. A few of my favorite themes are, a trip, a baby album, a school album.

2. Gather all of your supplies, including photos, paper, stickers, and embellishments, before you begin. When you have a collection of photos, and embellishments ready to go before you start it is a huge time saver!

3. Use acid-free and lignin-free materials to ensure your scrapbook lasts a long time. When you spend time on creating beautiful layouts make sure they last! The supplies you use do make a difference.

4. Take your time and don’t rush. Scrapbooking should be a fun and relaxing activity. Remember it is about enjoying yourself.

5.Use a variety of patterns, textures, and colors to add interest to your pages. There are so many fun ways to incorporate techniques and different supplies to your projects.

6. Use a ruler and quality trimmer to make sure your cutting is precise. I always say that tool are a great investment, you will never regret! They might not be the most exciting things to buy but very important.

7. Use different kinds of adhesive to help create different levels and more texture.

8.Include journaling or captions to add context and tell the story behind the photos. There are many ways to do this with Picture My Life cards, journaling strips, hidden journalling. So many options!

9.Take photos of your finished pages so you can share them online or print them out as backup.

10.Have fun and be creative! There are no rules in scrapbooking, so let your imagination run wild. Honestly I think this one is the most important, it is your scrapbook so have fun and enjoy!
